Spotlight on Paris

2 min read

The celebrated ‘City of Light’ excels at captivating visitors with its melange of historical grandeur, artistic marvels and mouth watering cuisine. Paris’ iconic landmarks, from the instantly recognisable Eiffel Tower to the splendid Notre-Dame Cathedral, are not just symbols of Paris but embodiments of its rich history and proud heritage.

Exploring Paris is like walking through an open-air museum. The Louvre, home to thousands of works of art including the Mona Lisa, offers an artistic experience few places can rival. Similarly, the Musée d'Orsay, housed in a former railway station, features an impressive collection of Impressionist masterpieces. Whether you’re an art lover or not, the Rodin Museum boasts some of the finest sculptures and glorious gardens.

The French capital city is renowned for its culinary gems — and rightly so. All over the city you’ll find bustling restaurants, charming bistros and chic cafés serving up delicious delights made to perfection: exquisite confectionery, buttery pastries and gourmet menus to please just about any palate.

The many Parisian neighbourhoods all have their own unique character, adding to the city’s appeal and making exploring a great pleasure. A stroll through village-like Montmartre reveals a bohemian charm with its quaint cobbled streets and artistic history, while trendy Le Marais owes much of its attraction to its superb architecture, fascinating heritage and quirky boutiques — a challenge to imagine this was once marshland!

If you like your green spaces, the fabulous Luxembourg Gardens and the Tuileries offer serene escapes from the urban hustle. A walk along the famous Seine River, with its picturesque bridges and romantic boat cruises, is a lovely way to take in the city.

Ways to visit Paris

The very first Riviera Travel holiday was a coach trip to Paris, so the city will always have a special place in our hearts. Aside from being a destination that never fails to impress, it’s also a breeze to get to. You can choose to fly, travel by train and even enjoy a cruise along the Seine.

If you’re looking for a tour of Paris, we have a short 4-day city break that includes two guided tours of Paris — one by day, one by night. If you plan to visit the Palace of Versailles, our Signature small-group version of this tour includes a ticket to the palace and gardens. For anyone hoping to enjoy a longer holiday, our Grand Tour of Paris, Bordeaux & Saint-Émilion takes you across France for 9 days; it’s also a Signature tour, which means the average group size is just 22 people.

The Seine is a popular option for a relaxing river cruise, and our 8-day Seine river cruise takes you along this famous waterway to Normandy, Monet’s Garden and much more.

If you prefer not to fly at all, we offer Eurostar options for both tours and river cruises that get you to Paris without having to set foot on an aircraft. All you have to do is turn up at the station and we’ll get you there — la vie est belle !
